The Republican Party has coalesced behind Donald Trump. He won the Electoral College, the popular vote, control of the Senate, and maintained control of the House. Trump has created the most diverse coalition the Republican Party has seen in generations. Having said that, the greatest nation on earth will never achieve its full potential as long as half of her citizens are fighting the other half. This election was definitely a “change” election. Americans are clearly demanding a change in the way our government goes about doing its business and treats its citizens. I pray we will change the way we view those who disagree with our politics. Let’s focus on what unites us, and dispose of those that divide us.
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you may have noticed the frequency with which I mentioned my respect for what I call traditional Liberals (TL). I have never counted, but I would guess I have as many TL friends as I do Conservative friends. As I have written, the ideological differences separating TLs and Conservatives are miniscule. Nearly all of my TL friends are against allowing biological boys into private facilities designated for girls, and don’t think they should be allowed on female athletic teams. I never spoke to one of my TL friends who thought taxpayers should pay for sex change operations of prison inmates. Most are in favor of immigration, but not illegal immigration. They believe a person should have to present ID before being allowed to vote. They believe women should have the right to an abortion, but not up to their due date. They are against censorship and any infringement of our Freedom of Speech. None support defunding the police. I could go on, but you get the point.
To find Democrats who support the above you have to move from the political center all the way to the extreme far Left. That is where you will find the Progressive Left of the Democrat Party. In a typical election postmortem, Democrats and the ultra-biased press/media, are feverishly pointing fingers of blame in every direction. Some say Biden should have stepped down after the 2022 midterms. That would have given the Dems time to run a Primary election to select his replacement. But would they have done so? They claim Biden’s resignation would have given the American people more time to get to know Harris. Yet, Harris’ history has proven that as people got to know her, they liked her less. They blame Pelosi, Schumer, and Clooney. They blame racism, sexism, homophobia, and misogyny. All of the above probably had a very minor impact on this election. But the real reasons for the Harris/Walz defeat are not that complicated.
The Progressives refused to listen to the American people. They paid no attention to us as they continued to march this country ever closer to Socialism. That is a place the majority of Americans are still not willing to go. The Democrat Party raised and spent a billion dollars on the Harris/Walz campaign. None of those funds were spent telling us why we should vote for them. We still don’t know. It was all spent telling us why we shouldn’t vote for Trump. They repeatedly told us that Trump was a Fascist, a dictator, and the second coming of Hitler. Voters could still remember Trump’s first term and none of those accusations were visible then. We were deluged with commentary of how Trump would take away women’s reproductive rights and discontinue Social Security. All but the least informed among us knew that couldn’t happen. They gambled that the majority of us were woke and would believe the brainwashing of the press/media. They were wrong. Abysmally wrong. The majority of Americans are simple meat and potato people. We just want to be able to afford groceries, utility bills, rent, and car payments. We’d like to have the money to buy gasoline to visit grandparents and go on the occasional vacation. We want to feel safe in our homes, and when we leave our homes. The number one job of the government is to keep us safe. Defunding the police seems counterproductive to our safety. We’d like the government to stay out of our lives. They can point fingers where they want, but at the end of the day, they lost for a couple of obvious reasons. The reason for the Harris/Walz butt kicking was that Harris had failed us for 4 years. Yet, she couldn’t think of a thing she would do different. And most importantly, both Harris and Walz were terrible candidates.
The task at hand for proud TLs is to unite and take back their Party. TLs are a huge majority of the Democrat Party. Yet, they have ceded control of their Party to a loud, well-funded, obnoxious, Progressive Left. When Dems held a small majority in the House, a splinter group known as the “Squad” was successful in holding the rest of the Party hostage. They threatened to withhold their support unless leadership met their policy demands. They knew their support was needed to pass Dem legislation and they took advantage to leverage those demands. With the result of this last election, they will not carry the same kind of sway. Losing this election will afford TLs the opportunity to right the ship and put the obnoxious Progressive Left players back in their proper insignificant positions. It will allow TLs to move the Democrat Party back to its long-held position of respect. It won’t happen by accident. It is now up to the TLs to decide what direction their Party will go from here. Unless they unite and push back against the organized Socialists, they will continue to suffer defeats like Nov. 5. Neither Party has all of the right answers to the problems facing this great nation. Our country is in desperate need of an active Dem Party led by TLs who will work with Conservatives to achieve the best results for the people. We will never achieve our ultimate success until we are all pulling the oars of government in the same direction. It is time for patriots of every political persuasion to toss aside our differences and work together to not just keep the USA the greatest nation on earth, but to make it even greater. One would think that is the least we can do for our children and grandchildren. In 1858, President Abraham Lincoln said: “A house divided against itself, cannot stand.” That is as true today as it was then.
Thank you for visiting my post. I hope you found it worth your time. If you did, please share it with your family, neighbors, and friends. Think especially of those who you suspect might be TLs. Bob
