We Have a Front Row Seat to Watch the Demise of the Greatest Self Governance Experiment in History

We Americans continue to sit idly by while those things that have made our country great get threatened, even destroyed, one by one. Historic statues get toppled and defaced. Our children are taught to hate their country, and each other. Our police departments are being defunded and law enforcement officers are threatened and demeaned. A few activist District Attorneys, all of them Democrats, have unilaterally decided not to prosecute a number of criminal acts. People continue to riot, loot, and burn buildings with impunity. Our government mandates that men be allowed to compete with women in high school and collegiate athletics. Finally, but most critically, we are witnessing real threats to our first amendment right to free speech.

What makes a certain minority of our population think they have the right to decide which statues in our public squares should remain, and which should be removed? It is a crime to destroy or deface public property. Why do we allow these thugs to do so? Perhaps some of the statues, most of which depict American history, should be removed. That is a decision that should be made by the people, all of the people, living in that community. If there are laws against desecrating public property we must demand that those laws be enforced. If there aren’t current laws we must push our elected representatives to enact them.

In big, Democratic led cities, police departments are being defunded. Through August of 2020 Forbes reported that New York removed $1 billion dollars from their police department, Los Angeles removed $150 million dollars from law enforcement, and San Francisco cut its police budget by $120 million dollars. Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Seattle, and Portland, OR., are among other large cities that reduced their police budgets. Crime in each of those cities has gone through the roof. It is mind numbing to watch local elected officials pointing fingers in every direction but themselves in a futile effort to pass the buck. It is pathetic to watch as they tell Americans it was actually Republicans who were pushing for defunding the police. How stupid do Democrats think we are? As everyone with a modicum of common sense would have predicted, defunding and the general lack of respect for law enforcement, has resulted in record numbers of resignations and retirements in their cities. Those most negatively affected by all of this nonsense are people living in crime riddled inner cities. Sadly, crime in our big cities will only get worse in the near term unless the citizens of these cities stand up and demand better.

Remaining on the law enforcement theme, in most of those same cities, District Attorneys (DAs) have unilaterally decided not to prosecute certain crimes. (I won’t discuss the fact that DAs do not have the authority to pick and choose which crimes they will prosecute. They get away with it because citizens are too lazy to organize and remove those who do so). In Chicago, DA Kimberly Foxx has stopped prosecuting shoplifters unless they have been convicted of 10 felonies, or if they steal more than $1,000. How would you like to own a business and pay the outrageous rents/taxes charged in Chicago without legal protection? In San Francisco, DA Chesa Boudin, said he would no longer prosecute public urination, offering or soliciting sex, or shoplifting less than $1,000. I previously asked: how’d you like to be a merchant given these ridiculous ideas in Chicago? To answer that question, in San Francisco, Walgreens has closed 17 stores over the last 1 to 2 years. That creates a hardship for people who live near, and used, the stores that closed. Criminals have actually gotten so brazen as to organize and set up distribution centers. Kind of a mini Amazon with zero merchandise costs! Alas, we needn’t worry. California Governor Newsome, who hasn’t solved a single problem for Californians, has promised to look into this problem forthwith. He majors in looking good and being cool but promises to give this whole problem solving thing a try. Shoplifting hurts everyone, except the shoplifters. Until recently, when caught, it hurt them too. I could have mentioned similar situations in Boston, New York, Dallas, Philadelphia, and others. But you get the picture. Concerned citizens need to organize and recall the foolish DAs who are putting their citizens very lives at risk.

Apparently our government has bigger fish to fry. With one signature President Biden set women’s rights back decades. One of his early Executive Orders (EO) mandated that transgender women (men) be allowed to compete on female athletic teams at the high school and collegiate levels. A lot of people fought for too many years to create a level playing field for girls and women in every school that accepts federal funds. In 1972 Title IX was finally passed. Among other things, it mandated that educational institutions had to offer the same number of competitive sport teams for women as they did for men. Women’s athletics exploded. Women, of course, proved to be capable of competing at a very high level. Nearly 50 years later, led by President Biden, democrats have managed to reverse the benefits created by Title IX. They have proclaimed that men, who think they are women, must be allowed to participate on female athletic teams! All across the country men are replacing women on medal platforms. They are crushing the dreams and rendering as useless the years of hard work put in by women. Where the hell are the feminists? The EO also mandated that transgender women (men) must be allowed into the locker rooms, and showers, of actual women. Where the hell are the parents, and grandparents, of our female athletes? Too many of us are worried about being called names. We apparently would rather risk our daughters, and granddaughters, safety than be called bigots. Shame on us!

The most important issue in this blog is the blatant effort by our government to put an end to our 1st Amendment right to free speech. All over this great nation colleges and universities have been cancelling speeches scheduled by anyone who dares to espouse views that are to the right of their own. When I was in school UC Berkeley called itself the bastion of free speech. Today a number of conservative speakers have been cancelled, or moved off campus, by Berkeley administrators. If they had any pride they would be totally ashamed of what they have become. I’ll not bore you by listing those speakers who have been cancelled because of their political leanings. For the same reason I won’t provide a list of universities that did the cancelling. If you are interested you can do an internet search. I’ll bet the list will be longer than you’d imagined. We must stop sending our contributions, and our kids, to these ideological cesspools. The most frightening move against our free speech is being carried out by big tech, at the behest of the Biden administration. You may have argued that the collusion of big tech and the government is a conspiracy theory. Until the last week. Biden’s Press Secretary, Jen Psaki, said that the administration was monitoring emails, for signs of misinformation, or disinformation. She said the plan was to report any such findings to Google, Facebook, and Twitter. Then they can decide if the guilty parties should be removed from their platforms. Psaki went on to say that she would encourage all three of the above to remove the person if any one of them did so. This is a pure attempt at censuring the American people. The Constitution absolutely forbids the government from censuring its citizens. So the government has figured a way to get the private sector to do the dirty work for them. There is a movement afoot in Congress to put an end to special privileges given to big tech. It is moving at a snail’s pace because a huge portion of the members of Congress receive large political contributions from big tech. It is time for the American people to contact their members of Congress and demand that they rein in these out of control companies before freedom of speech is no longer allowed.

I hope you agree that time is short, and the list of things that we need to do is long. You may not agree with all of my comments. If you agree with just one of them, stop what you are doing and get involved. We simply must let our elected representatives know what we want them to do. We must demand they do our bidding. Don’t ever forget that they work for us.
