Will We Be Proud Of What We Leave Our Children (And Grandchildren)?

I have been writing this blog for multiple years. I have no idea how many people read it, and I don’t care. Writing it is cathartic for me. I receive comments from readers who know me quite well and others who know nothing about me, other than what I write. Last week I had the opportunity to visit with a couple of neighbors who were walking their dog past my yard as I was filling our bird feeder. They told me they had been reading my posts for quite a while. When we parted company, they said that knowing more about me and my motivation would add some depth to their understanding about my writing. That gave me the idea to write this week’s blog to let more of you understand why I do it. Here goes.

I watched for more than 30 years as our government continued to remove or reduce our freedoms. The Progressive Left dragged us along as it continued its relentless drive to socialism. During that time my children became adults and started having children of their own. I became increasingly concerned about what our country might look like when my grandchildren grow up. In the recesses of my mind, I recalled something I had heard when I was a younger man. It went something like this: The freedoms you don’t fight to preserve today, are freedoms your children will never know.

I wondered what an average American like myself could do to make a difference, to preserve the freedoms inherent in the greatest nation on earth. I am not a billionaire, so I can’t afford to buy politicians or otherwise influence elections. Instead, in 2014-15, I wrote a book titled “The Awakening of the Silent Majority, I Pray It’s Not Too Late”. The book had two reprints. Previous to that, for over 20 years I made my living making speeches. I am a very accomplished public speaker. I don’t believe that God gave me the ability to speak persuasively, only to make money. So, after writing the book, I went on a national speaking tour for the next year and a half. I did presentations in more than 20 states, speaking to many thousands of Americans. I never charged expenses, or speaking fees. We met many unbelievable patriots who gave me hope for our future. My wife and I viewed the trips as patriotic vacations.

Then I began writing my weekly blog. Initially, I was posting twice a week. That became too onerous. From the time I decide on a topic, do the research, write the article, go through the editing process, and post it, the entire process takes something around 8 hours. That is why it is very gratifying when someone tells me they are regular readers. To know that people are reading my thoughts is at once encouraging and humbling.

I believe the 2026 mid-term election will be the most important mid-term of my life. If Trump is to have any chance of completing his “America First” agenda it is imperative that Republicans maintain control of the House and Senate. Along with the fact that Michigan will be electing all new leadership, I hope to be very active on the political front. I plan on giving many speeches. My presentation is titled: Will we be proud of what we leave our grandchildren? It is a common sense presentation of the issues facing the American people in general, and Michiganians in particular.

It is no secret that for decades we Americans blindly put our well-being in the hands of elected representatives with little to no oversight. We trusted that our representatives would strive to secure a better life for us. Instead, too many of them improved their own lives while fleecing their constituents. We have relearned the age-old warning that we should never allow anyone to make decisions for us if they are not accountable after making mistakes.

I intend to ask audiences of every political persuasion, whether in person, or in my weekly blogs, to consider a set of thoughtful questions. Samples include: Who is fighting to allow boys to enter girl’s locker rooms and to compete against them in sports? Do you agree? Should our government be allowed to deport illegal aliens who have committed crimes here in the U.S.? Why are some Americans angry at the people uncovering waste, fraud, and abuse, in our government while voting for those who have been stealing our tax dollars? (The Department of Government Efficiency should have a presence in every state government).

While we were busy going about our lives, our representatives and unelected bureaucrats, were busy taking away our freedom and liberties. Just since 2000, Americans have been surveilled, censored, and victims of late night SWAT Team invasions into our homes. We have been locked down, watched as our churches and schools were closed, and forced to take an unproven vaccine. The definition of Eminent Domain has been so abused as to render private ownership of property meaningless. We’ve been told what kind of toilets, light bulbs, and autos we must buy. There is always a different reason, but the result is the same. Our freedoms are being eroded by an ever bigger, intrusive, government. We have forgotten that the Constitution was written to protect the citizens against the government, not the other way around. It is axiomatic that as the government gets bigger it will need more of our earnings to support it. It follows that as the importance of the government grows the importance of the people is diminished. It is time we remember that every single government employee works for us.

I am very proud to be an American. I am grateful every day that, of all of the countries in the world, God allowed me to be born in the United States of America. That made me an instant winner of the most important lottery in the world. The life lottery. Those who are either incapable, or unwilling, to recognize that truth are to be pitied. I will do everything in my power with whatever time I have remaining to preserve the values that made this country great for my children and grandchildren. If you, or someone you know, are responsible for scheduling speakers I hope you will keep me in mind. I can be contacted via email at [email protected]. Thank you. Bob

Bob, when my hubby and I retired from the DOD back in 2005 & 2006, we started working the elections. We (being silly) thought it was our civic duty. Once we joined the Calhoun County GOP, we quickly realized that it was just a drop in the bucket. If you don’t want to put yourself out there to run for office, you need to do your utmost to ensure the people who are willing, who hold the same morals and ethics you do, get elected. My husband did run for, and was elected 3 times for the Pennfield Township Board. Then, and this is where it gets complicated; too many of us Christians could see how those in power were changing our country, but too many of us, as long as it didn’t affect our lives personally, just let it go without raising our voices in protest. Then, when it got to be impacting our livelihood, did we realize we should have tried to stop all the injustice from the start. Even now, there are many Christian’s that are not registered and do not vote because of the separation of church and state. I know in this last election, many people went out to Wyoming, Idaho, and Colorado to talk to the hunters as to why they needed to register to vote and do so if they did not want to lose their rights to gun ownership. I believe it did help; however, we all need to be vocal and try to convince others as to why voting, and voting while being informed, is so critical to the future of our nation! Praise Gid President Trump and his cabinet and his God are doing a great job in starting to rebuild our great country, but if we let up in the least, it won’t take much for all the corrupt politicians to try and regain all they are losing! I, for one, am flabbergasted by the amount of people I know (and don’t) that cannot see all the corruption that has befallen our country. I pray for President Trump and his cabinet and family every night that they are successful in their endeavors, successful enough that our next President will be able to continue the good work he has started. Thank you for all the great articles over these past years; it’s so nice to know we aren’t alone in worrying about the world we leave our progeny!

Bob, I hope that you will start posting where you will be speaking. I don’t run into you enough. Keep up with the fight. I know as I get older, I want to be less involved. But we can Not afford to.

      Mike,
I will post times and locations of speaking engagements as they are scheduled. While I understand the feeling to back off, things are just too critical for us to throw in the towel. Bob

Great piece. Keep it up, please. I, too, worry about my “kids” and grandchildren. I’m also glad I’m my age. I had no idea of your past-thanks for sharing.
