In a few days Americans will go to the polls. This year’s midterm elections are as important as any in memory. Both parties seemed to sense the importance as early as last year. Things occurred that we have never seen before. Some of what happened would have been difficult to even imagine. As President Biden’s approval ratings continue to drop Democrats are sensing trouble. Republicans smell blood in the water. Their approach to the primaries were sometimes unusual, occasionally offbeat, and regularly bizarre.
Republicans, famous for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, went to war with itself. A civil war is where two opposing sides fight for supremacy. What do you call it when people who claim to be on the same team go to war? I am not sure there is a term for such a thing. So I’ll call it the war of idiots. Mitch McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund supported a slate of favored primary candidates in multiple states. McConnell’s candidates were much like him. They appeared to be candidates who might be inclined to toe the McConnell line. Not to be outdone, Donald Trump put forth his list of preferred candidates. Trump’s preferred candidates were like him. Which means they are not likely to toe any line. They are not afraid to speak their minds and are not cowed by anyone. Off to the war of idiots they went. Millions of Republican dollars were spent airing the weaknesses of Republicans. After many of Trump’s selections were victorious, McConnell said it would be harder for Republicans to retake the Senate because of a lack of talent in the races. The Republican Minority Leader of the Senate actually said that. Out loud! On camera! Maybe Mitch likes being the Minority Leader. Sometimes egos can get in the way.
But Democrats decided they could out idiot the Republicans. That is no small task. They spent tens of millions of DNC dollars supporting Republican candidates in multiple primaries. Their plan was to help Trump endorsed candidates win their primaries. They were certain that Trump endorsed candidates would be easier to defeat in the general election. These fools are still campaigning against Trump. This not only displayed their stupidity, it also put their lack of confidence in their candidates on full display. The old saying, be careful what you wish for, is proving prophetic as we near election day. Many of the Republican candidates the Democrats helped win are ahead of their Democrat opponents in the polls. Perhaps karma is real.
Panic must be setting in. Democrats have elevated gaslighting to an all new absurd high. A few months ago they suggested that defunding the police was really a Republican idea. When the fawning press/media didn’t run with that ridiculous claim they let it drop. As recently as yesterday Speaker Pelosi sent a memo to her caucus telling them they need to go out and sell the idea that they are really the party of law and order. Two weeks before the election. She must have thought nobody would remember the litany of Democrats looking into the camera and saying they were for defunding the police. Some of the more articulate Democrats said they were in favor of “reimagining” law enforcement. How avant-garde.
Democrat hypocrisy has also been on full display. Rich progressives said nary a word when the President was bussing, and flying, multiple thousands of illegals to all parts of the country in the middle of the night. But when Governor DeSantis sent one airplane with 50 illegals to Martha’s Vineyard all hell broke loose. The press/media called him all kinds of names. None of them nice. Democrats said his actions were racist. They said he should be ashamed of how he treated these poor people. The virtue signaling residents, all with signs in their yards declaring their love for illegals, had those people out of their city in 36 hours. New York and Chicago are both sanctuary cities. That is until the busloads of illegals stopped there. New York’s Mayor Adams declared an emergency and asked for help from the national guard. He threatened to sue Texas and Florida. Chicago Mayor Lightfoot ranted about the terrible bus trip the illegals had to suffer through. She said they didn’t even know where they were going. She whined that she was not informed of their arrival. Then the next day she unceremoniously put them on another bus and sent them to suburbs that were not sanctuary cities. She didn’t tell the mayors they were on their way and didn’t tell the illegals where they were going. She’s a beauty.
Entrenched, establishment, politicians are so out of touch with Main St. Americans they can’t possibly understand, let alone represent, our needs. If you’ve been in Congress for more than 10 years it is time for you to go away and live under the laws you passed. We know you don’t have to follow the same rules we do when you are employed by the government. Let’s send the antiques, those with more than 10 years in Congress, home.
Thanks for reading my blog. I hope you found it interesting. Bob
