“And then they came for me” Martin Niemoller

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.

The above is a poem written by Martin Niemoller a 19th century German Lutheran pastor and Theologian. He appears to have written it about the cowardice of certain people, including himself, who watched as Hitler purged society of the people he feared couldn’t be controlled. I am not suggesting there is anything Hitlerian about the democratic party. I am saying one needn’t be Nostradamus, Kreskin, or even Carnac, to see the future of our Republic under democrat rulers.

First they took control of education, and we didn’t speak out-because we were otherwise occupied. Before they took control America was at, or near. the top of the world list of K-12 education leaders. We have since fallen precipitously into something less than mediocrity. We used to teach the three R’s, reading, writing, and arithmetic. Every student was required to take classes in U.S. History and Government/Civics. In many schools today our children aren’t even being taught how to write cursive! More schools every year offer U.S. History and Government/Civics only as elective courses. These classes are being replaced by classes that indoctrinate our kids. We give every child a participation trophy, and don’t keep score at athletic events, in an effort to build self esteem. Then we attempt to convince children of color they are helpless victims, and white kids they are racists! In Burbank, CA. the school has banned such classics as, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Of Mice and Men, and others because it was decided they contained racial content. We inappropriately teach young elementary students about sex. More critical time is wasted in the belief that students must understand there are more kinds of people than just boys and girls. There is a predictable conclusion to dumbing down our curricula. In 2018 the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation found that just 39% of Americans could pass the multiple choice Citizenship Test. It only takes 60% to pass! It is easier to control ignorant people.

Then they took away our freedom of speech, and we didn’t speak out-because we refused to believe it could happen in America. We send our children off to college, at a cost of many tens of thousands of dollars a year, to expand their minds. When they get there they are shielded from hearing or seeing anything that might hurt their feelings. Safe spaces have been created for them. You want to hand out pamphlets and share your faith with fellow students? All you need do is get a permit and deliver your message from a designated “free speech zone”. If someone complains you will be forced to cease and desist. Isn’t the entire campus a free speech zone? Forget it if you want to deliver a center, right of center, speech on many of our most esteemed institutions. U C Berkeley, the self proclaimed bastion of free speech, only needs a few signatures from infantile students to cancel conservative speakers. Guess what you’ll learn if your professor thinks like you, and your classroom was full of people who think like you. Nothing! Our kids are being taught to hate America by professors, many of whom hate America. Never has such a large percentage of young people in America said they would prefer Socialism to Capitalism. Part of this ignorance can be traced to their lack of K-12 education. The majority of their ignorance comes from college instructors and their inability to hear opposing views.

Then they came to extinguish our voices in the voting booth, and we started to pay attention-but we are convulsed by the thought. Our government continues to take away our freedom. They tell us we must wear masks and avoid celebrating Thanksgiving with our loved ones. In fact they are taking away our right to earn a living. Businesses are again being told who will survive, and who will lose their life savings. We are being told we can’t visit our loved ones in hospitals and nursing homes, or go to the church of our choice. But we can go to strip clubs. Screw them! The “free press” sifts through the news of the day and reports only those items that support its narratives. Corporations are punishing employees who dare to say what they think. Social media is deciding which messages are “appropriate” for Americans to read. Who gave them that authority, and why do they still have it? The people continue to be treated like mindless sheep by all of the above. My fellow Americans, regardless of your political affiliation, you must be concerned about what is happening, especially in the 2020 election. You see, elections are the ONLY way the people have a voice in their own future. When elections are corrupt it takes away that voice. Regardless of who wins this election, it will be perceived as corrupt. It had to be thus. Once democrats made it possible for ballots to be mailed to every registered voter there was no other possible outcome. But mail in ballots weren’t enough. The Constitution, whether state or federal, was treated as a minor nuisance by democrats. They made it legal to count ballots received after election day. Unconstitutional! They decided to ignore rules that require absentee ballots to have matching signatures. Unconstitutional! They found ways to avoid showing IDs when hand delivering absentee ballots in Wisconsin. Unconstitutional! These last two items created two voting classes. If you vote in person you must show ID. When you mail, or deliver, absentee ballots no ID is required. Unconstitutional! Republicans were kept from viewing the vote counting process in multiple key battleground states. Unconstitutional! When all is said and done 1/2 of this country’s voters are going to feel disenfranchised. How sad. This must be fixed right now! We must demand that our elected representatives pass laws that will clean up this embarrassing mess. (I intend to be a leader in getting it done in Michigan). If any of them drag their feet we must get rid of them forthwith. This must never happen again. It is sad and frightening.

Finally they came for the people and we found we had no voice. As soon as the media declared the winner of the election (not theirs to decide) some very frightening comments were made by high profile democrats. Robert Reich, former Labor Secretary in the Clinton Administration, called for a Truth & Reconciliation Commission. He said: “It would erase Trump’s lies and comfort those who have been harmed by his hatefulness and name every official, politician, executive, and media mogul, whose greed and cowardice enabled this catastrophe”. U.S. House member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked: “Is anyone archiving these Trump sycophants for when they try to downplay or deny their complicity in the future?” High profile social media users announced the start of a “Trump Accountability Project” to track Trump supporters. These ideas were supported by MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Jennifer Rubin from the Washington Post, and many others. This is reminiscent of nearly every totalitarian regime for the last 100 years. It is chilling and should scare every American. We can survive all of the above. But we must remember that our freedom and liberties are not guaranteed. What is happening in this election is far more important than who will be our next President. What we are witnessing can have existential ramifications for the future of our Republic. If Americans are forced to participate in predetermined elections we will have proven we are incapable of governing ourselves. We must stand up and use our voices while we are still allowed to.
