I’m From The Government And I’m Here To Help.

President Ronald Reagan once said: “The nine most dangerous words in the English language are, I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” If you know me at all you know that I have a deep, and growing, distrust of our government. There seems to be no end to its insatiable need for money, control, and power. This monster continues to assume control over parts of our lives that the Constitution specifically forbids it from entering. The small minority of Progressives/Socialists (PS) continue to drag the government, and therefore the governed, into its suicidal death grip. Until now they have been patient. They were content to slowly engulf whole segments of an unaware, or apathetic, society. That is changing. They continue to promise a utopian future that the weak minded have happily approved. The PSs have recently seen an unexpected groundswell of Americans rising to fight back for our freedom and our liberty. (We have a history of that you know). There is currently a confluence of events forcing them to speed up heir agenda.

Our federal government wants to grow in order to gain more control and power. Many of you may not be old enough to remember the 1950s movie: The Blob. It starred Steve McQueen in his first full length motion picture leading role. The tag line for the movie said: “An alien life form consumes everything in its path as it grows and grows.” (The blob was finally stopped by freezing it and throwing it in the ocean. Just sayin). If you remove the word alien, which our speech police tell us is a naughty word, it describes exactly what is going on with our government. D.C.’s answer to every problem is more money. Do you know that tax paying Americans, you and I, sent four times more of our earnings in the form of tax dollars to D.C. in 2015 than we did in 1985? We quadrupled D.C.’s revenue in 30 years. Yet we still ran a deficit in 2015, and every year since. President Obama set an all time record for spending during his 8 years in office. He nearly doubled the total national debt accrued by every previous President in our history. But it turns out he was a piker. This year, if the Build Back Better Act proposed by President Biden is passed, our government will approve spending more money this year than Obama did in 8!!

Gullible Americans will be comforted in the knowledge that none of this outrageous spending is going to cost us anything. Our President tells us that this $1.75-$4 trillion bill will not add one single penny to the national debt. He tells us that no American, earning under $400,000 a year, will pay a single penny in additional taxes. The PSs have apparently found a mystical fairy who has agreed to spread magical pixie dust money all over America. Even the PSs know this is wishful thinking. Those who know who always pay for these pie in the sky programs know it is a lie. They say they will raise taxes on the wealthy and on corporations to pay for the bill. That is preposterous on its face. Forget what tax rate you slap on the wealthiest Americans. They’ll figure out how to use loopholes to avoid paying extra. (Democrats included in the bill an increase in the amount of state and local taxes the richest Americans can deduct from their federal taxes). If the government confiscated 100% of the assets of the 10 richest Americans that would still fall short of paying for the bill. This is absurd. And corporate taxes are a joke as well. Corporations are NOT tax payers, they are tax collectors. When the government raises taxes on corporations they do one of 3 things. 1. They reduce or cancel pay raises to employees, or they reduce or cancel matching funds to employee 401(k)s. 2. They reduce or eliminate dividends paid to stockholders. 3. Finally they raise prices. None of these three options show up as tax increases, but it is the little guy that pays. When asked about option 3 in a news briefing, White House Press Secretary, Jen Psaki said: “President Joe Biden believes people know that corporations do not need to raise the cost of goods in order to pay more taxes and pay more of their fair share.” Psaki must have majored in political fiction. She clearly went nowhere near economics. The problem facing American businesses is that nobody in the Biden administration has ever signed the FRONT of a paycheck. They have only signed the back. Americans are getting tired of being taxed to death. They are tired of being lied to about what they will have to pay.

Government’s thirst for control has been on full display for the last 18 months. Where education is concerned it has been going on for decades. We have watched as our children fall farther down the global competitive ladder every year. We need more money says the bureaucrats. We need more money says the leaches running the teacher’s unions. That is complete nonsense. We already pay the most, or second most, per capita of all of the countries in the world on education. Money is not the issue. How we use the money is. Schools receive a little less than 10% of their total funding from the federal government. Yet it decides what curricula is used. We spend too little time on reading, writing, arithmetic, science, history, and civics. Many/most schools have dropped shop and home economics classes altogether. All of the above mentioned classes gave way to sex education, gender and race studies, Critical Race Theory (CRT), and faux history such as the 1619 Project, forced by D.C. Our children are in front of their teachers fewer days than nearly all of our global competitors. I wonder if that might be a factor?

The most pernicious example of governmental control is the terrible loss of freedom and liberty we have endured during the COVID pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of businesses across the nation have been forced to close, many of them forever. D.C. just sees businesses. People know they represent millions of friends who have lost everything. The PSs see millions of Americans who will no longer be able to take care of themselves. These are people who will forever be beholding to the government for the necessities of life. Our children have lost the better part of 2 years away from their teachers and classmates. People have been denied treatments for sometimes life threatening diseases. We were forced to wear masks, social distance, and continue to get a growing number of vaccinations. Perhaps worst of all, we were forced to allow our loved ones to die alone in nursing homes and hospitals. Many of them incapable of understanding why their family wasn’t visiting.

In March of 2020 the dialog was “15 days to flatten the curve.” Over a year and a half later the mantra is now get vaccinated or lose your job! They said “we will follow the science.” That is a complete lie. If they were following the science they wouldn’t be firing people who were COVID survivors. The science says that natural immunity is often better than vaccine immunity. They punished doctors who had hundreds of proven instances of treating COVID patients successfully with alternative scenarios. If they were truly dedicated to following the science why would they be firing Americans for not being vaccinated while allowing tens of thousands of illegals to enter our country monthly without knowing their vaccination status? Why would they transport them all over the country? This has nothing to do with the virus, or with following the science. This entire exercise has been to gain control. The PSs sees millions of additional Americans who will no longer be able to take care of their own needs. For Socialism to take hold it needs to constantly increase the number of helpless people. It is all about control.

Money plus control equals power. Neither party looks at issues through the lens of what is good for the country. The first question seems to be what is good for my party? What can we do to gain more power for the party? Over 80% of Americans want the southern border closed. Democrats see illegals as potential votes. Democrats are in control so they ignore the border crisis. Over 75% of Americans want picture IDs for voting. Democrats insist voter IDs are racist. Democrats are in control, so they ignore us. Political parties no longer view us as citizens. They see us as subjects, a kind of chattel. But our voices are getting louder.

As I mentioned above, there is a confluence of events that make the PSs nervous. They thought the pandemic would frighten the daylights out of Americans. They hoped our fear would send us scurrying to “big brother” for protection. They did everything they could to make that happen. The free press, social media, and big corporations, all aligned with government in an effort to frighten, bully, and silence, the freest people in the world. And sadly it worked with a large number of us. COVID, as it turned out, was the catalyst we citizens needed to begin pushing back. With parents forced to stay home, and children taking classes at home, parents began seeing some of the rot their children were being forced to endure. Thousands of us began showing up at school board meetings and town halls. We wanted answers for the edicts laid down by tyrants. The National School Board Association (NSBA) responded to our queries by calling us domestic terrorists. They asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to look into the parents who dared question their authority. The DOJ dutifully put the FBI on full alert all across the country. The DOJ has not rescinded that alert. Typically this form of bullying would have been enough to quiet the masses. This time the American people had had enough. We forced state legislatures to pass laws outlawing CRT. We started recall petitions against those board members who lied to us about the existence of CRT in our schools. We are running new candidates for school boards all over the country. We elected people who represent our wishes, not party hacks. In New Jersey, a deep blue state, a truck driver with no political experience defeated an incumbent with 20 years in the state Senate, 12 as its President. These events have put the PSs on their heels, as none of this was supposed to happen. I pray this is but the beginning of bigger things to come. I want to thank those who got off their behinds and said no more. It may turn out they saved our Republic. You are the modern day version of Paul Revere.

I hope you found this post interesting and informative. If you did please tell your friends about it. Thank you, Bob

Another learning opportunity. How about they put a federal tax on pot

Garry, I am pretty sure there is a tax on pot. I know there is a tax at the state level. If there isn’t one already I would be in favor of a federal tax too. Stay well. Happy Thanksgiving. Bob

This is one of the biggest. Loads of bull crap that the right keeps circulating like the load that just won’t flush. To quote Reagan was your first mistake. The first president to foster Corporatism. The outlawing of the Air Traffic Control Union was his first step toward autocracy and hardly anyone noticed because of the relentless attacks, from the right, to end collective bargaining and, like the boiled frog, we have watched as the middle class is deemed the Enemies Of The State because Corporations don’t want employees to own their own labor and, collectively, bargain for their own livelihood. This is the real enemy of America’s democracy. Reagans handlers, organizations like the Freedom Foundation, have steered the direction the ship of state and have been essential to nullifying our/your freedoms and liberties. Forty years of corporations saying they have no intention of doing their share to rebuild and maintaining our infrastructure is quite enough. Amazon Prime is a good example of corporations getting a free ride.. they pay no taxes and yet they have tens of thousands of those vans using the crumbling infrastructure that is not being repaired.. Why? Because they have put their money to good use buying politicians willing to continue their attacks on the nuisance American Way. It’s due time they stop buying, and making rich, right wing politicians to do their bidding. Reagan hung the Sword of Damocles over the heads of the loyal opposition who came to the White House to make sure they were unable to make America the Shining City On The Hill while stealing the power of the individual American.
You did give me a good laugh, though, when you try to run away from Citizens United. You claim that, while they are people, corporations are not taxpayers. That is the BS that the right wing politicians are trying to make you believe.
Question, though. How do you differentiate between freedom and liberty. My guess might be that you wish to exercise your Constitutionally protected freedoms but, like the libertine, you want your freedoms to be paramount and the rest of us can go to hell. That’s where the right is going and, appearantly, are willing to take down our democratic republic to ensure their success. Just look at Trumps agenda and remember that every republican to come to the White House in 40 years have ballooned the debt and left it to Dems to pay it off. You may not realize it, sir, but people like you are, as Trump, Stalin and a number of dictators around the globe will say, an enemy of the state AKA union.

Douglas, I am not really sure where to start with my rebuttal. Some of your thoughts are so hateful, and convoluted, that I’m not sure anything I say will matter anyway. But here goes. First, I am pleased to quote President Reagan. He was absolutely right in firing the ATCs. Any group that threatens to shut down an entire section of the economy, and put lives at risk, needs to be stopped. Union or otherwise. His decision had nothing to do with autocracy. I agree with FDR when he said there should be no unions in the public sector. But you confuse private and pubic unions. I totally support unions in the private sector. They have indeed played an important role in growing our middle class. Contrary to your comments, politicians from both sides of the aisle are guilty of taking money from corporations. It is simply churlish for you to suggest otherwise. You are short sighted in blaming Amazon Prime, and their ilk, for paying no taxes. The fault falls directly on Congress. They are filling their pockets with lobbyist cash, and refusing to change the tax code so that multi billion corporations can’t legally avoid paying taxes. You want to be pissed of at someone, be pissed off at Congress. To me freedom and liberty are nearly synonymous terms. I generally agree with the dictionary definition. You can look up the definition yourself. I believe freedom is what allows me to make decisions for myself, as long as my decisions don’t infringe on your freedom. You have the same rights. All I ask is that you don’t keep me from exercising those rights. Your comments about republicans and the debt show, either your blind political ideology, or your ignorance. From your comments it seems it is the former. Anyway, I want to thank you for taking the time to read my post and leave your comments. Bob
