Common Sense, Honesty, Not So Common Any More

Few of us want our politicians or corporate leaders to be un-credentialed. We somehow feel better, more confident, in knowing they have MBAs or college degrees. Those credentials are of limited value if they are not accompanied by honesty, and at least a modicum of common sense. There is a dearth of both common sense, and honesty, in leadership all over the U.S. Those two virtues have been replaced by cowardice, egotism, and the need to stick a wet thumb in the air to see which way the wind is blowing before making decisions.

If highly educated politicians used a little common sense they would not make so many stupid mistakes. As an example: Mayors often resort to short term, racist, knee jerk, reactions when facing long term problems. Those decisions almost always wind up hurting the people for whom they pretend to be advocating. The mayor of Ferguson (St. Louis), after the riots following the death of Michael Brown, reduced the number of cops on the beat. Riots following the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore resulted in defunding the police there. What do you suppose the impact on crime was? We common folks knew the answer immediately. You don’t need a degree to correctly predict there would be a rise in crime. Today Baltimore, and St. Louis, rank in the top 10 most murderous cities, per capita, in the WORLD! One would hope that educated mayors would learn from these tragic examples. Alas, mayors in New York, Chicago, Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Philadelphia, LA, and others, have since defunded their police departments in one way or another. Guess what? Murders are up in all of these cities. Because they think we are all blithering idiots, they obfuscate by feeding us irrelevant data. They tell us that, if you take out violent crimes, crimes in their cities are actually falling! Does that make you feel safer bunky? Of course not! Another reason their crime data shows a decrease is because they have stopped arresting criminals who steal less than $950 worth of valuables! It doesn’t matter if the theft was from a merchant or from your home. These city’s DAs have produced a list of other crimes they will no longer prosecute. Why not put up billboards advertising which laws crooks can commit without consequences? Let’s you and I, the non-elites, think that through. If a laundry list of crimes, including theft up to $950, go unprosecuted the “official” crime rate would naturally go down. We actually have an advantage over the educated elites. We have both common sense, and we are honest. We know that the actual incidence of crime is up. Only Democrat politicians can fool themselves into believing that, because thieves aren’t arrested, there are no thieves, ergo there can’t be any thievery. We see people who have had their dreams ruined by looters and arsonists. We know there are people who have lost their livelihoods due to crimes the elites say aren’t important enough to prosecute. That is, not important to woke politicians who care more about “oppressed” criminals than about their constituent victims.

From heroes to zeroes in less than 30 days. From the time COVID was identified, nurses, members of law enforcement, and others, continued to serve their communities. Initially we knew very little about the virus and there was no vaccine. Yet these people stood on the front lines, risking their lives for the people in their communities. They were, each of them, patriotic heroes. Nearly every hospital and nursing home had banners out front stating the obvious, HEROES WORK HERE! Politicians just set an all time record in reversing that patriotic heroism. Today, many of those who were touted as heroes, are out of work. Political geniuses are mandating that these people get vaccinated, or lose their jobs. Can you imagine? It is governmental tyranny.

Nurses worked face to face, every day, with patients they knew were infected with COVID. Because of staff shortages they often worked double shifts. All before vaccines were available. Many of them came down with the virus. Some died. Nobody can imagine the national catastrophe that would have ensued had nurses followed the lead of teachers unions and refused to go back to the hospital, or nursing home. Nurses are now leaving their profession, or being fired, as opposed to taking the mandated vaccine. Our government continues to tell us they “follow the science.” Nonsense. A lot of nurses who had COVID and now have natural immunity are still being required to get vaccinated. There are a number of studies that show natural immunity is stronger than that of vaccine immunity. The government refuses to take that fact into consideration. Follow the science my a**. They only follow the science when it supports their narrative. Imagine the wasted brain power involved in deciding to fire thousands of nurses in the middle of a pandemic. So you’ll want to do your best to avoid getting sick for a while, as hospitals will be understaffed into the foreseeable future.

Law enforcers continued to chase down, and sometimes wrestle with, criminals before a vaccine was available. There was no way of knowing if the bad guy had COVID. Law enforcers did their dangerous, thankless, job anyway. They are the reason we can, with relative safety, leave our homes. We are now seeing huge numbers of law enforcement professionals leaving their departments. They are retiring, resigning, or being fired. We should expect that the simple act of taking our kids to the park, or going out to eat, is about to get more dangerous. It would be fair to ask if that is part of the political elite’s plan to defund the police. Their mandates are resulting in a lower number of police, and they can blame that on the cops. Society requires a buffer between good and bad people. Should we ever arrive at the Democrats holy grail, where there are no longer evil people, there will be no need for people who enforce the law. Until then, we had better appreciate the courageous people who willingly stand as that buffer. Think of the stupidity exhibited by firing thousands of law enforcers in the middle of a spike in crimes. We must support whatever decision they make in reference to getting vaccinated. We must advocate for them whenever possible.

The ultimate in governmental tyranny is found in the potentially cruel results of the mandates. Most of the nurses and law enforcers mentioned above stand to lose more than their jobs. Our family, friends, and neighbors, stand to lose their health insurance and their pensions if they refuse to get vaccinated. Many have been told they may not be eligible for unemployment benefits. While our government is scrambling to make social services more accessible to unvaccinated illegal immigrants, it is threatening to take them away from nurses, law enforcers, and others. Education is worthless without honesty and common sense.

This blog is beginning to run a little long. I will therefor cover a few corporate execs who refuse to be honest, or exhibit common sense, in my blog this Sunday. College degrees don’t, by themselves, make a person qualified to successfully perform leadership roles. Leaders need trust and respect to be successful. Neither trust or respect are inherited. They are earned. Honesty and common sense are critical elements in both.

If you liked this blog please tell your friends about it. I work really hard to produce these blogs. It would be nice to capture more eyeballs. Thank you.

Well said. We agree totally. Do you have a blog on censorship… doctors, scientists, researchers and the science.
How about the unintended consequences of all thing Covid.

Charlie, I have not done one on censorship, or unintended consequences of COVID. Both are on my list of future blogs. Thanks for suggestions. Bob
