We Are Becoming What We Got Rid Of In 1776

Prior to 1776 we struggled under the boot of British royalty. Our freedoms were under attack. A king and a bunch of aristocrats ruled over subjects without concern for their needs or wants. They went about their daily lives with little concern as they were rarely replaced. Their needs were fulfilled by pillaging the resources of their subjects. Any shortfall was covered by confiscating goods, or money, from helpless subjects. King, prince, duke, marquess, earl, viscount, and baron, all living in the laps of luxury and privilege at the expense of the people. But wait you say. We don’t have royalty. Our leaders are elected by the people. Just how different is our situation today versus 1776?

We don’t have a king who typically attained his title through blood lines, and usually remained in power for life. Our counterpart is a president. Our president can reign for only 8 years. Kings may have consulted with members of the aristocracy, but their decisions were final. Constitutionally, our president faces a series of checks and balances in the name of Congress which consists of the House of Representatives (HR), and the Senate. To receive funds he needs to convince the HR of the necessity of those funds. If he wants to sign a treaty he must get the approval of the Senate. Many years ago members of Congress found it could be career threatening to make important decisions. So they chose to do nothing. This attitude gave presidents tacit approval to skip the checks and balances and become an authoritarian. They began writing executive orders that make, or remove, laws they like or don’t like. They have unilaterally forced schools, from K-12 through college, to allow boys to participate on girls athletic teams, and share locker/shower facilities. Our current president, with a wave of his imaginary scepter, decreed that all Americans WILL get a vaccination. That, or lose their careers. Presidents today act more like kings than ever before in our history. Certainly more so than our Founders ever imagined.

But our representatives are elected you say. They do not gain their position by inheritance or by appointment. Maybe not exactly. You need only understand that, on average, over 85% of incumbents get reelected. Even as Congress languished in the toilet of public opinion for a decade, we continued to reelect them. We have a member of Congress here in Michigan who replaced her husband, who replaced his father, who was first elected in 1932! Just saying. There is a very real comparison to be made with ancient monarchical appointments and todays cabinet members and heads of our largest bureaucracies. Cabinet members can, depending on the strength of the president, wield a lot of power. They are often appointed for their past loyalty to the president. Often, as we see right now, many of these appointees have no experience. Because members of Congress don’t want responsibility for laws that end up unpopular, they pass laws then send them to unelected bureaucrats to complete. Presidents are in office for a maximum of 8 years. Bureaucrats are with us for life.

Kings made laws that only peasants had to obey.. It is the same today. When Obamacare passed we were told, by the democrats who passed it, that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. We were told that we should drop to one knee in their presence for passing this fabulous bill. Then they secretly went to the president and begged him to find loopholes that would relieve them from its grip. At his 2012 State of the Union address, President Obama pushed for a bill to end congressional inside trading. In April of that year members of both parties walked out for a photo-op to celebrate the passing of the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act. Hurray! Aren’t we great The powerful no longer have an advantage on the peasants, they exclaimed. Within days the Wall Street Journal and USA Today questioned members as to why their spouses and children weren’t included in the prohibition. Those who responded said they weren’t aware that their family members weren’t excluded from the legislation. They said they would look into it. As of today I have not seen a response. The teeth of the bill was a requirement that members post their trades on their websites every month. In less than 6 months they got rid of this requirement saying it was too onerous. Oh well. We do have pictures of their photo-op to remember. Finally, under the rules for thee but not for me department we have the following. For the last 18 months we have been locked down. That is we peasants have been locked down. Governors went mask-less to fancy dinners and traveled across state lines within days of forbidding us to do so. Mayors partied mask-less and marched with rioters after telling us to wear masks and stay away from crowds. Mayors and Senators went to their hairdressers while it was against the law for us to get haircuts. President Biden said everyone had to get vaccinated or lose their jobs. Well almost everybody. He exempted Congress, their aides, the USPS, and hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants entering this country. Dear God, we citizens are now being treated worse even than illegal immigrants! We’re all in it together, he said. The hell we are! No member of the administration, Congress, or any other state or federal government employee missed a paycheck. I could go on for pages listing the laws that higher-ups have broken for which they have never been prosecuted. You get the point.

Our representative form of government gives us someone to solve our problems, you say. I say to you, with a certain amount of sadness, it is time for us to recognize that the existing elected representatives WILL NOT solve our problems. They have proven they have no interest in doing our bidding. The following is shown as proof. Over 80% of the American people want term limits. Why isn’t there even a discussion about them in Congress? More than 70% of Americans want people to show IDs to vote. Congress is trying to pass a bill that will eliminate the requirement of showing an ID. There are 75% of Americans who want to see the southern border closed. More people are crossing our southern borders today than at any time in our history. Over 70% of us do not want to defund the police. Many democrats are pushing for defunding. Over 70% of Americans are against the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT) to our children. Yet the Department of Justice has set out to silence parents who attend school board meetings to speak out against CRT. Going so far as to call them domestic terrorists! With each passing month our government looks more like the monarchy we overthrew in 1776. I pray that we citizens will continue to do our patriotic duty and push back against this governmental tyranny. We must expand on the initiative began by those brave parents. I pray our government will see the errors of their ways before the American people are forced to repeat the actions of 1776.
