We can debate the veracity of the idea that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is independent of the sitting President. While it is supposed to be, in reality, it hasn’t been for a long time. In 2013, President Obama’s Attorney General, Eric Holder, was quoted as saying: ” . . . I’m still the President’s wingman . . . “. It is unrealistic to expect the Attorney General, who is the head of the DOJ, and is appointed by the President to be independent of him. So, let’s just drop that facade.
For this post I will not need to go back in time any further that 10-12 years. The situation facing the current DOJ began in the closing year or two of the Obama administration. He weaponized the IRS and allowed them to delay or deny requests for tax exempt status to conservative groups in the runup to the 2016 election. Hillary Clinton was responsible for producing a fake document, the Steele Dossier, that was brought forth as evidence that Donald Trump was paying Russians to influence our election. Documents were falsified then filed with the FISA Court to receive permission to continue surveillance of Trump and his allies. These actions were designed to influence the 2016 election. They led to the impeachment of a duly elected President. If this country has witnessed a coup, it began then and continued in the leadup to the 2024 election.
While serving as Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton kept thousands of documents on a private server. Many of those documents were designated as classified, secret, or top secret. When the FBI subpoenaed the server, Clinton destroyed it, saying it contained only personal and family photos. Sure! No charges were brought. What do you suppose would happen to you or me if we destroyed documents subpoenaed by the FBI? After being removed as Director of the FBI, James Comey admitted he leaked documents to a friend who he hoped would get them to the press/media. John Brennan, while Director of the CIA, and James Clapper, while Director of National Intelligence, both lied to Congress while under oath. All of the above felt comfortable in their deceitful behavior knowing there would be no charges brought by Obama’s “wingman”. The mainstream media was complicit in its refusal to do any serious reporting on these events. Meanwhile Republicans were prosecuted and jailed for the same, or similar, offenses.
Leading up to the 2024 election, in an effort to ensure Trump would never be reelected, Democrats got really ugly. Trump was impeached again even though he was no longer in office. He was persecuted by the mainstream media and prosecuted in multiple jurisdictions by vindictive Dem. prosecutors and district attorneys. The prosecutions were weak at best. They did, however, keep him in court, thereby impeding his ability to campaign effectively. His convictions resulted in monstrous fines. They sued to remove his name from ballots in many states. They even shot him! The American people saw through all of the subterfuge and elected Trump to a second term. So, now Trump is on a mission to put an end to the two-tiered judicial system.
Democrats and the mainstream media (I repeat myself) have come unglued accusing the Trump administration of targeting his opponents. I am against revenge as a reason for prosecution. But if the people being prosecuted broke the law, is it revenge to prosecute them? Shouldn’t we prosecute all law breakers? They enjoyed the prosecutorial cover provided by the Obama administration. Should they be free of prosecution because they are viewed as victims of Trump’s revenge? I watched Brennan and Clapper lie to Congress. Comey admitted he had given government documents to a friend. That’s illegal. I am not a lawyer, nor do I have a minute of training in the law. But common sense suggests that a normal person would not go to great lengths to destroy a personal email server if it only contained personal and family photos. These people, and others, from the Obama and then the Biden administrations should be held to account for the damage they have rained on President Trump and the American people. They worked illegally to influence the outcome of several elections. That must be punished.
I have no idea if New York’s Attorney General, Letitia James, is guilty of mortgage fraud. She is, after all, innocent until proven guilty. A Grand Jury found there was enough evidence to indict her. Should she be treated any differently than a common citizen? I hope not. To quote A.G. James: “Nobody is above the law”. Comey has been indicted. There will almost certainly be a relatively long list of political miscreants to follow. We should not be surprised to hear teary eyed Dems. plead the victim card for their brethren. Expect Trump to be vilified by the mainstream media when more of the political operatives from the Left are indicted. It would be a dereliction of duty if the DOJ chose not to prosecute people simply to avoid what some might call the impropriety of that prosecution. The bottom line for me and for other fair-minded Americans is this: Did they commit a crime? If they did, they should face the same consequences the rest of us would.
The Trump administration faces a daunting task in attempting to restore our legal system to its once enviable position. I can think of no one I would rather have in charge of the task.
Thank you for taking the time to read my latest thoughts. Bob
Sadly, it’s the American Taxpayers that foot the bill for 35 to 40 million dollars when they knew it was wrong.
