Mr. President

I found your speech on March 3rd a bit confusing. It was a speech I would have expected from a third world, banana republic, despot. That it was delivered by the president of the country whose people have enjoyed the greatest freedoms in the word was shameful.

You looked directly into the camera and said the American people deserve the truth. Then you proceeded to spew lies and half truths. You told us about the “. . . longest walk any parent can make is up a short flight of stairs to his child’s bedroom to say: I’m sorry. I lost my job. We can’t be here anymore.” You said that immediately after cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline project, and discontinuing future drilling on federal lands. Your decision will immediately force thousands of currently high paid parents to make that walk up the stairs. Tens of thousands of parents whose jobs are connected to these projects will ultimately make that same walk up the stairs. Only a politician could make such a dishonest statement.

You said: “A year ago we were hit with a virus that was met with silence, and spread unchecked.” That is a lie. You said: “Now because of the work we’ve done, we’ll have enough vaccine supply for all adults in America by the end of May. That’s months ahead of schedule.” “We”, meaning the Biden administration, had absolutely nothing to do with the vaccines that are being produced today. A true leader, dedicated to telling the truth, would have given credit where credit was due. President Trump, and operation “Warp Speed”, are totally responsible for Americans getting vaccinated months, perhaps even years, ahead of schedule. But then it takes courage to be a true leader.

You said it was sad: “Watching a generation of children who may be set back up to a year, or more, because they’ve not been in school, because of their loss of learning.” This part of your speech was indeed true. But then you said: “. . . and my announcement last month of a plan to vaccinate teachers and school staff, including bus drivers, we can accelerate the massive, nationwide, effort to reopen our schools.” Accelerate? Your administration has done exactly NOTHING to get our precious children back in school. Our children desperately need to be in school. It will take years for us to understand the damage that being out of school has done to our kids. You said we must follow the scientists and follow the science. Well, Mr. President we now have countless scientific studies completed in the U.S. and elsewhere, including your own CDC. All of them state that children should be in school. Private schools all over the country have been open to in-school learning since at least last August without any measurable increases in COVID cases. The only people that are against the safety and well being of our children are teachers, and their unions. You know, the ones who tell us how much they care about our kids when it is time for us to approve a new millage so they can get an increase in salary. These folks don’t know any more about the COVID virus than you Mr. President. What they do know is they donate tens of millions of dollars to your political party. They understand that represents ownership. Your lack of action on this critical issue proves that you care more about campaign contributions than you do about the well being of our children. Teachers, their unions, and YOU, should be totally ashamed of the harm you are causing to millions of our children.

Finally, Mr. President, it was wonderful to hear that if we all get vaccinated by the end of May you might, might, allow us to have family cookouts by the 4th of July. Maybe “. . . just small get togethers, no large gatherings”. You said: ” . . . in the coming weeks, we will issue further guidance on what you can and cannot do once fully vaccinated”. An obvious question is, if we are all vaccinated, what is there for us to fear about family cookouts of any size? A second, more direct question is, who the hell do you think you are to imagine we will wait to get your permission before we get together with our loved ones on the 4th of July? (This is where I would display a middle finger emoji if I knew how)! The 4th of July is also known as Independence Day. We are lucky to live in the most free country in the world. It is time for us to stop being quivering weaklings and celebrate that freedom. Any American who waits for your permission to have a family cookout on Independence Day deserves to sit in fear of the COVID virus for the rest of their pathetic lives.
