I could cry as I watch what is happening to my country. I am a 70 year old American and have voted in dozens of elections. I have voted for both democrats and republicans in every one of them. American citizens are desperately searching for truth and courageous leadership. As we travel further down this frightening path it appears that we are more apt to find unicorns. Political party leadership has never been this irresponsible. The only thing that matters to them is increasing their power.
That is true of politicians, the media, big tech, and corporations. Hypocrisy is the connecting descriptor of all of these groups. Americans are left to decide which side is the lesser hypocrite.
Politicians choose who is guilty of fomenting riots based solely on their political bent. During the entire 4 or 5 days of the Democratic Convention in 2020, not a single speaker mentioned the rioting that was happening in real time. By refusing to condemn this activity they were silently condoning it. Only when polling suggested the riots were hurting democrats did they step up with tepid condemnation. The Mayor of Seattle ceded police stations, and blocks of her downtown business district, to thugs. When asked how long she thought the occupation would last she said, maybe it will be a “summer of love”. Portland, OR. suffered through nearly 4 months of rioting this summer. The Mayor told law enforcers to stand down. During the rioting this summer our future Vice President said on television that the rioting would continue. She not only said they would continue, she said they “should continue”. She also helped establish a fund to bail rioters out of jail! It appears she thought THOSE riots were okay. The Speaker of the House when asked what she thought about the destruction of statues said, and I am paraphrasing, I don’t think much about statues. People will do what people will do. So THOSE riots had her tacit approval. Real leaders would have immediately quelled the rioting. All rioting, regardless of the purpose, is wrong! Every normal American knows this.
Corporations are just as hypocritical. During the rioting that took place for the better part of 7 months in 2020, corporations continued funding candidates, including those who were supporting rioters like the ones mentioned above. Even worse they displayed their lack of courage by actually funding the left wing groups who were rioting, looting, beating, and burning. They pledged hundred of millions of dollars to the rioting groups. Real leaders would have stepped up with hundreds of millions of dollars to help rebuild the businesses of those people who could only watch as their dreams and financial lives were ruined. The summer-long riots were viewed as “mostly peaceful protests”. Now that rioting in D.C., involves right wing rioters, the cowardly corporations decide to punish those on the right. These riots are being called insurrection perpetrated by domestic terrorists. In a perfect world these phonies wouldn’t be allowed to funnel millions of dollars to elected officials. I hope that Americans will take a look at the list of corporate cowards and refuse to do business with them.
Americans need to get in the faces of their elected officials concerning the unchecked power of big tech. Never in the history of our country have so few people had as much power as the leaders of Amazon, Google, Apple, and Facebook. In 2016 the Left hyperventilated about the influence they said Russia exerted on the election. They screamed that Trump and the Russians had colluded to steal the election. After 30 months, and over $30 million taxpayer dollars, a committee of 15 or 16 democrats found no collusion between Trump and the Russians. It is not arguable that big tech had influence on the 2020 election. They shut down the twitter account of the President of the United States just weeks before the election. They removed the New York Post story about Hunter Biden’s activities with the Chinese a week before the election. Anyone else who mentioned Hunter Biden found their social media accounts closed as well. The effect big tech had on the election is semi measurable. Shortly after the election a poll was taken asking Biden voters a couple of questions. About 45% said they weren’t aware of Hunter Biden’s dealings with China. A little over 9% who voted for Biden said they wouldn’t have had they known this information beforehand. It is clear that big tech was integral to Biden’s win yet there will be no investigation of the tech giants. Americans would never allow the government to censor our speech. We’d better make it clear, right now, that we will not stand for a few billionaire heads of tech companies to censor us either.
This discussion would not be complete if it didn’t mention the most important cog in the machine that has driven America into dangerous, unchartered, waters. That is the media! None of the above could have occurred if the media was fulfilling its role as the watchdog of corruption for the American people. All summer, network television reported on riots in many different cities. A mainstream media correspondent would be filmed reporting on what they called a mostly peaceful protest. Then in the background we watched as buildings and cars were burning. We watched as thugs demolished storefronts then proceeded to empty the stores. Also called peaceful protests. Instead of calling them out the media gave cover to incompetent Mayors and Governors who were completely clueless as to what to do. Instead of excoriating corporations for funding the rioters, the media held them up as heroes. A functioning media would be fighting to their dying breath to stop censorship, of any kind. They would have screamed bloody murder when the President was kicked off Twitter. They would have cried foul when Facebook and Twitter silenced the New York Post after it posted its story about Hunter Biden. The rest of the “free press” would have followed the lead of the Hunter Biden story. As it turns out many didn’t even mention the story. There were thousands of people who signed affidavits about voter fraud they witnessed after the 2020 election. The press completely ignored what might have been the biggest story of corruption in American election history. Instead they report, to this day, there is no evidence of widespread voter or election fraud. The press has given up its role as watchdog. They have become involved with big tech and Americans are the worst for it.
Everything America stands for is at risk. Unless sane, thoughtful, leadership appears in all 4 of the groups mentioned above there will be no saving the greatest nation on earth. Our 240+ year experiment in self government will be over. I don’t think we can wait for them. We must begin the process with action. We must start by telling our elected representatives that we want to see the big tech companies monopolies broken up. NOW! Those politicians who refuse to get involved in this process must be turned out of office in 2022. We must pay attention to which corporations are funding the rioters and stop doing business with them. If we live in a city with other conservatives we must demand that the editorial boards of local newspapers add conservatives commentators. Let’s include the above in our New Year’s resolutions.
