Letters to Elected Representatives

Many of the blogs I have posted have suggested that citizens need to get involved in the doings of our country and our government. The most ideologically challenged fool must concede that we can no longer go about our merry way expecting elected representatives to solve our problems. They will not. Too many of them simply have agendas that differ from ours. It was our indifference and apathy that flashed a green light allowing them to put their interests, and those of their political parties, ahead of their constituents. It is time for us to switch the green light to red before it is permanent.

During the Q & A sessions after my speeches, and in emails following my blogs, many people have exhibited an interest in getting involved. Most demur because of a lack of confidence in their ability to author proper letters. In this blog I will initiate what I intend to be a series of letters that can be used as written, or as templates, to help people make their voices heard by their elected representatives. We must remember these people work for us. We must remember they are not clairvoyant. They can’t know what we want unless we tell them. We must begin the process of retaking control of our country. I will produce additional letters from time to time as the need arises. I encourage you to make recommendations for future letters. All new letters will be posted on this blog page. You may contact me with your ideas for additional letters at [email protected]. I will confirm receipt of your suggestions via return email. What follows are the first examples. The first is unusually light and is intended for our members of Congress. I suggest that everyone reading this send a copy to each of your members of Congress as an opening salvo. Let’s make them aware of our presence. That is not a difficult chore as we each have but 3 elected members of Congress. The second is a bit more direct and specifically aimed at the Michigan Legislature. Again, we only have 2 members to write to. Let’s do it right away. Make copies and give them to all of your friends. (I suggest you keep a copy of every letter you send as well as any responses you receive).

Representative/Senator, It is my/our plan to see that the 118th Congress will be different than the previous few. Right from the start I/we will be more vocal in letting you know what we expect from you. I/we are going to spend less time listening to what you say, and more time watching what you do. We don’t care about either the Democrat, or the Republican, agenda. We care only about the agenda of the American people. I/we will start by making two very simple requests. First, I/we want to see you sponsor, or co-support, legislation that will close our southern border. No amount of “comprehensive immigration reform” talk will be sufficient. Close the southern border, today! That’s the easy one. Your lack of fiscal responsibility is crushing the American people. Therefore, I/we want to see your name on legislation that will require a balanced national budget, and begin to reduce our national debt. It took 42 presidents over 200 years to grow our debt to $5 trillion. Since 2000 our debt has climbed over 6 fold to $31 trillion! I/we demand that you work to put an end to this fiscal insanity. I/we will be watching to see if you choose to continue to be part of the problem, or to be part of the solution. I/we never miss an election.

We’ll be talking to you again,

Your name

What follows is a letter to Michigan Legislators

Rep./Senator,

This letter is to inform you of my/our request that you vote no on any legislation that would repeal the “Right to Work” law that was put into effect in 2013. Michigan was the 24th state to pass such legislation and 4 additional states have joined that group since. Both before and after the law passed, the people of Michigan have repeatedly, and by a large margin, supported it. Free people should never be required to join unions, or any affinity group, as a condition of employment. I/we will be following your actions as this topic is debated in the Michigan House/Senate. Please do not vote against the majority of the Michigan people. Your decision to defeat any repeal movements on the “Right to Work” law will allow me/us to support you in future. We are politically active and always vote.

You will hear from me/us again,

Your name
