The title of this blog is one of the most recognized lines in movie history. It was uttered by newsman Howard Beale in the 1976 movie “Network”. Beale was speaking for every American frustrated by the state of modern life. He was mad at the lack of honesty in news programming. He was angry about the avalanche of misinformation (lies) and fear mongering being spewed by the government and the media. He was angry about the affect those lies had on keeping people frightened and in their homes. He was angry about inflation and the Russians. Much like most Americans today, he was just plain ticked off. With each passing week, Americans are given more reasons to be mad as hell. Sounds familiar doesn’t it.
Our Republic is facing dangerous, unprecedented, times. Trust is a critical issue as it pertains to a government and its citizens. Elected representatives, and their unelected bureaucrat brethren, have been working overtime to learn how to hide their immoral/illegal activities from we citizens. A long time ago they recognized they would not be held accountable for their wrongdoing. It is nearly impossible to fire a bureaucrat. So bureaucrats don’t worry. Unless a politician is term limited, it is very difficult to remove them from office. They know that they can lose the ability to lead if constituents no longer trust them. Thus, they have learned how to dump enormous heaps of mistruths, untruths, and pure lies, on us. Democrats can rely on a fawning press/media to obediently whitewash and legitimize their lies. Dissent has been effectively silenced by the government through its collusion with social media tech giants. I am too kind to attack those witless souls who kneel at the altar of government. Those who defend the evil edicts of an evil government by saying, yeah but look what Trump did. They are their own special kind of stupid.
Democrat leadership is keeping the pedal to the metal in its attempt to bankrupt the U.S. and impoverish the majority of Americans. They were stunned when they only lost control of the U.S. House during the recent midterms. And that by only the slimmest of margins. Democrat policies have hurt countless people over the last 2 years. It was the ineptitude of the Republican Party, and the gullibility of American voters, that kept the midterms from producing the kind of tidal wave nationally that we witnessed in Florida. Democrats could have drawn but one conclusion. American people enjoy being lied to and are willing to accept more pain.
We are being hornswoggled by our President, and most of his department heads. Inflation, while abating a bit recently, is still crushing middle class, and lower income, American families. The way they report the rate of inflation is like a pathetic shell game. A shell game concocted by self appointed elites to present to what they perceive as a hapless constituency. I hate getting too far into the weeds but I think this is important to understand. Please follow this example. At the end of 2019 the basket of goods used to measure inflation cost, in this example, $100. Those same goods at the end of 2020 cost $101.20. So inflation in 2020 was 1.2%. At the end of 2021 the basket’s cost was $105.96 representing an inflation rate of 4.7%. When 2022 concluded that same basket of goods cost $114.44 a rate of inflation of 8.0%. Whatever rate of inflation the government reports in 2023, that will be taken against a basket priced at $114.44 at the end of 2022. Don’t be fooled by their numbers. (The inflation numbers used in this example are actual for each year).
When Biden took office, gasoline was around $2.00 per gallon. Today it is around $3.25 per gallon, down from an all-time Biden high of $5.00. To do so he has bought oil from the Russians while funding Ukraine in their war against. . . Russia. Really, we were funding both sides. He has begged the Saudis and the Venezuelans to pump more oil. He has depleted our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to unprecedented levels. With gas currently at $3.25 per gallon it is still 60% higher than when he took office. Biden is suggesting we should be celebrating the great job he has done in reducing gas prices. Sadly there are dopey people who are doing just that.
Over the last 12 months, 2 million illegal immigrants flooded across our southern border. The Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, repeated that our southern border is sealed and secure. Sec. Mayorkas is either a ruthless liar, or a, no, he is a ruthless liar. Keeping the border open has resulted in well over 100,000 American deaths due to opioid overdoses. Other illicit drugs, and guns, are smuggled in daily. Countless children have been sold into the sex slave business. The illegals presence will force labor rates lower, and make it more difficult for citizens to find entry level jobs. It will cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars to feed, clothe, house, educate, and provide health care for them. The growing number of illegals will make the average American taxpayer poorer.
We were lied to about just about everything concerning the COVID pandemic. I think it was a test run. The government wanted to see what it would take to frighten Americans into capitulation. They found out. We still have children wearing masks in school. We are still being pushed to get vaccinated. Last November, President Biden said the COVID pandemic was over. Earlier this week he declared the 13th extension of the COVID emergency. We all know the emergency is over. The President knows it is over. But by removing the emergency status he loses the ability to unilaterally maneuver people and organizations like pieces on a monstrous chess board. What socialist would willingly give up such power?
Finally a quick look at ineptitude. A year and a half ago the U.S. was gripped by a supply chain crisis that saw ships backed up at our ports as far as the eye could see. There weren’t enough trucks available to move the cargo. A year and a bit later railroads were threatening a strike that would have crippled our economy. Then just last week, the airline industry was completely shut down by a glitch at the FAA. What do planes, trains, and trucks, have in common? They are all part of the transportation grid. And who is the Secretary of Transportation? That would be the one and only Mayor Pete Buttigieg. Pete launched into his job. He immediately made us aware that highways are racist. His explanation was just as ridiculous as his conclusion. While the ships were backed up to China the Transportation Secretary took a 2 month paternity leave. Proving that he met the definition of “public servant”. President Biden knew that Mayor Pete was feckless. So he replaced Pete and negotiated a truce with the railroads. It didn’t stick, but it was better than Pete could have done, he was in Portugal. Then last week, for the first time since the 9/11 attack, the entire airline industry was completely shut down for a day. Pete was furious. Earlier he had mandated what he thought was a sure fire remedy for all FAA problems. The system that shut down flights had forever been named the “notice to airmen”. Pete, recognizing the shortcomings of this sexist title, immediately changed the name to “notice to mission”. In Pete’s shallow mind, he had solved every FAA problem. When that didn’t work, Pete immediately appointed a commission to examine the problem. Doesn’t that warm the cockles of your heart? It leaves one to wonder, which is worse, lies, or ineptitude?
I hope you found this blog interesting and informative. If so, please tell your friends about it. Thank you, Bob
You are right on. I am furious with this administration. Republicans must stand up against the lies of the Democrat party and the major media outlets. We must all fight for our country.
Your point is??????
Good job. Lies and censorship.
Pete’s a joke, but who isn’t in this administration.
You are so right. So what do we do?
Steve,
I certainly don’t have all of the answers. I am a devotee of the old saying: I am only one, but I am one. I can’t do everything, but I can do something. To that end my next blog will have a series of letters that people can use as templates to contact their elected representatives. I have scheduled a handful of presentations for when I return from Florida beginning in mid March. The goal will be to motivate people to action. I will schedule as many as possible. We are entering very troubled waters. It is time for us to push back with everything we have. Thanks for continuing to read, and comment on, my writing. Bob
