The election in November marked a potential turning point in America. We couldn’t have known it even a month before the election. Millions don’t recognize it yet. But the election signaled an awakening. Donald Trump won the popular vote and the Electoral College. The first Republican to do so in 20 years. He was victorious in all seven of what are called the “battleground states”. He gained market share in every demographic. His Party took control of the Senate and held control of the House of Representatives. Americans of every description were clear in their message. They were tired of paying ever higher prices for the necessities of life. They were angry that the government was spending money it didn’t have on people who were here illegally while citizens are doing without. (Think North Carolina). Trump said: “Biden/Harris broke it, I’ll fix it.” We know it is broken. We gave Trump a mandate to fix it. The ball is now in the Trump administration’s court.
Everyone reading this blog understands the time constraints facing the President Elect. He has but 4 years to regain control of a government that is spiraling out of control. Truth be told, if Republicans lose control of either the House or the Senate in the 2026 midterm elections, he may actually have only 2 years. It is therefore critical that he hit the road running on inauguration day. By reviewing the picks he has made to fill his Cabinet, it is clear that he recognizes the urgency and is surrounding himself with no-nonsense people capable of getting things done. His closing theme was: “Promises made, promises kept”. If he is to hold the House and the Senate in 2026, it is imperative that voters believe he is solving their problems.
It is a safe bet that every government department wastes taxpayer dollars, some more than others. They are headed by entrenched bureaucrats who heretofore have been accountable to no one. They mismanage the money they are budgeted, then ask for more with each new budget. Trump’s appointees are serious, successful, people who will not put up with this nonsense. Some of you are old enough to remember presidential candidate Ross Perot. During the 1992 campaign, he said there would be a giant sucking sound that would be jobs leaving the U.S. for Mexico if the North American Free Trade Agreement was approved. Today’s equivalent is the giant humming sound coming out of D.C. as Dept. heads are running their paper shredders 24/7 to get rid of evidence of their failings, perhaps misdeeds. Unelected bureaucrats went wobbly kneed when it became clear that along with Trump’s election would come the Department of Government Efficiency. Those Dept. heads who are the worst offenders are dusting off their resumes. The dominos are already starting to fall as the head of the FBI announced he will be leaving at the end of the Biden presidency. That is 3 full years prior to the end of his term.
In about 5 weeks we will see the difference in feckless leadership and leadership that is laser-focused on improving the lives of the American people. Every Trump appointee will be committed to making their area of responsibility, Defense, Homeland Security, etc., more transparent and efficient. Every Dept. needs to be retooled, some more than others. No amount of retooling can save those that are redundant, have outlived their usefulness, or are failing in their missions. They will at long last be abolished.
We should expect to see reductions in both personal and corporate income taxes. The cuts in personal taxes will mean more money left in the paychecks of hard working, middle class, Americans. Cuts in the corporate tax should allow for either reduced prices or pay raises for employees. Republicans believe that people will make better decisions about how to spend the money they earn than the government will. Trump’s energy policies will allow us to capitalize on our God given energy reserves. They will help our nation become energy dominant in a world demanding more energy. That will produce a reduction in the cost of energy everywhere we use it. All of the above will be felt almost immediately once Trump’s policies are approved.
When Trump’s policies reduce the number of illegal aliens, we will save the hundreds of billions of dollars being consumed by them. We taxpayers provide education, shelter, food, health care, telephones, and a monthly stipend, for people who broke our laws to get here. Because we don’t have the funds, we are required to borrow them. In that interest on that debt needs to be paid every year, taxpayers will be paying for illegal aliens far into the future. Imagine you are a victim of hurricane Helene whose been living in a tent in western North Carolina since late September. These American taxpaying citizens have been surviving with little or no basic necessities, as temperatures often fall below freezing. How would you feel knowing that your government is providing non-citizens with all of their daily needs, including hotel rooms in major cities? I am not a victim of hurricane Helene, and I am pissed off at the disparity of care given these two groups.
There is one last thing that Trump’s presence in the White House will change. It was reported earlier this week that the Biden administration broke a record. They registered the 96,088th new government regulation put on the books just this year. He broke the record held by Barack Obama during his last year in office. Government regulations always have a cost to companies and consumers. They cost billions in fees and lost productivity annually. Some are necessary. Most are a nuisance. Early in his first term, Trump mandated that for every 1 new regulation there must be 2 that were removed. We won’t see the benefit of this policy, but it is real.
In just over a month adults will be back in charge of the biggest economy and strongest military in the world. Our military, under the guidance of Pete Hegseth, will be charged with focusing on its lethality instead of worrying about using the wrong pronouns. I predict we will see a surge in enlistments into the ranks of our warfighters. Our cities will be safer when Tom Homan’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents catch and deport criminal illegal aliens. And they will. Imagine a Secretary of Energy, Chris Wright, who will institute policies that produce ever larger amounts of fossil fuels instead of neutering the fossil fuel industry. The bedrock of every free society is a consistent rule of law. For the last 4 years the Dept. of Justice has been weaponized against anyone who dared confront the Democrat Party. Attorney General Pam Bondi will put the mask back on Lady Liberty. I could go on Dept. by Dept. Trump is a businessman who hasn’t wasted any time checking off socially responsible boxes. He has instead, appointed a team of people who mean business. If he gets any kind of support from Congress, the majority of Americans will be better off 4 years from now.
Thank you for taking the time to read my latest thoughts. Bob
American do want America back. And the waste, and the Wasters, to be gone!
Frank,
If Trump is able to do half of what he has planned, his will be a transformational administration. We are living in a very momentous time in our country’s history. Thanks for your comments, Bob
Please correct the year 2022 in both cases that it is mentioned. It should be 2026.
Barb,
Good catch. I have no idea how I made such a mindless mistake. It has been corrected. Thank you, Bob.
