We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,- That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to affect their Safety and Happiness. Thomas Jefferson delivered the above as part of our Declaration of Independence from the tyrannical King of England.

Our government has but a few constitutional responsibilities to the American people. Chief among them are protecting our borders and keeping us safe. Unless you are a moron, or a hopeless ideologue, you recognize that government is failing us on both fronts. During COVID we were ordered to stay home, wear masks, and get vaccinated. The government terrified us about those events that had the potential to become what they called “super spreaders”. Businesses were closed, entertainment events were cancelled, and people lost their jobs for not being inoculated against the virus. We were told it was for our own good. All the while, tens of thousands of illegal immigrants were coming into our country every month. That number has grown to hundreds of thousands a month today. We didn’t/don’t know if they have been vaccinated against COVID, mumps, measles, polio, or any other disease. These people were/are routinely bused, or flown, into cities all over the U.S. These ARE/WERE “super spreader” events, and they were/are created by the same government that forced its citizens to lock down.

It is impossible to enjoy liberty, or freedom, if you are afraid to go outside. In some places people don’t have to leave their homes to be in danger. In communities in Chicago it is reported that parents put their children to bed in bath tubs to protect them from stray bullets. Democrat led big cities, by defunding police and refusing to prosecute a long list of crimes, are morphing into veritable hell holes. A group in San Francisco, once my favorite big city in the U.S., was producing maps to help visitors avoid aggressive panhandlers and sidewalks used as toilets by the homeless. It could now be the poster child for how to ruin a city. Sadly, this is true for many big cities run by Democrats. It is true for many cities in California. Their Democrat Governor, Mr. style but no substance Gavin Newsom, has called for a committee to see what might be done. Everybody, except the Gov., knows that by protecting the victims instead of the criminals would go a long way toward solving his dilemma.

It’s not just at the border, or our overall safety, where the government has failed us. Thanks to their plan of indoctrination instead of education, our children are farther behind their global peers than ever before. If you graphed our kids performance since the creation of the Dept. of Education you would see the line starts at the top left, and steadily descends to the bottom right of the graph. It is insulting that we are forced to pay an ever increasing amount of our incomes to support such horrific performance.

Who could forget the IRS choosing to punish groups that appeared to oppose President Obama? Lois Lerner was the Director of the Exempt Organizations Unit at the IRS. When groups appearing to oppose Obama applied for tax exempt status Lerner delayed, or denied, their application until just before the election. Of course, that was too late for them to be effective. The IRS apologized. Ms. Lerner’s punishment was early retirement with full benefits, thanks to the generosity of those voters she cheated.

Even the most venerable of our government agencies, the FBI and the Department of Justice, have been weaponized and have lost the most important thing needed to be effective. That is the trust of the American people. We were taught that we lived in a country of laws, that justice is blind and nobody is above the law. A passing knowledge of how the recent misconduct at the highest levels of government have been treated differently proves those ideas to be myths. President Trump saw his house raided and was subsequently indicted for possession of classified documents. The documents were under lock and key as per government request, and under the 24 hour watchful eye of the Secret Service. No matter, he is a Republican. President Biden, on the other hand, had documents in multiple locations. No raid, no indictment. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton destroyed tens of thousands of documents that were under subpoena. Of those not destroyed, FBI Director James Comey, said that many were classified, a few were Top Secret. Yet, he determined that Clinton had no “intent” to do anything nefarious with them. He knew intuitively that she had no “intent” because she was a Democrat. It is impossible to feel secure when it is obvious that the penalty for wrongdoing is predicated on your political affiliation.

Is our government as corrupt as that of the King of England in 1776? Is it time for us to follow through on the wise words of Thomas Jefferson? We are at a critical point in our Republic. I believe the next election will decide whether we move forward as a free people, or if we will allow government to rule over every part of our lives. In next week’s blog I will make some suggestions as to what actions we should take before the 2024 elections. Stay tuned.
