I’ll save the discussion as to whether our form of government is a Democracy or a Republic for a later blog. I’ll move forward as if we live in a Democracy. I knew there would eventually be something that the Progressive Left (PL) and I would agree on. This election IS about saving our Democracy. But that is where we part company. The PL insists that, if elected, Trump would be a threat to our Democracy. They say he would become a dictator. They are employing something called projection, they are warning us what Trump will do while they are actually engaging in that very behavior. Truth be told, it is the PL that has displayed illegal, anti-democratic, dictatorial, activities for years.
Our Democracy can’t prevail without the free speech guaranteed in our Constitution. The First Amendment protects all speech, regardless of the speaker. It was not written to protect speech that everyone agrees with. It was written to protect those saying things that are unpopular, even inflammatory. The PL, in its efforts to shut down dissent, claims that hate speech, misinformation, and disinformation, are not protected by the First Amendment. That is absurd. To that end the Dept. of Homeland Security, under Biden/Harris, launched the Disinformation Governance Board in April of 2022. The Board was charged with finding “false information that is deliberately spread with the intent to deceive or mislead”. What a joke. Who decides if the information is false, and what its intent is? The government does. To the PL, hate speech, misinformation, and disinformation, is defined as any speech that disagrees with them, or points out their transgressions.
Government censorship is perhaps the most serious threat to our Democracy. It is against the law for the government to censor our speech. The law is nothing but an annoyance to the PL Socialists. Knowing they can’t censor our speech directly, they enlist outsiders who have the ability and desire to do so. Elon Musk, who is fast becoming a hero to many Americans, had been a hero to the PL. That was when he was leading the charge, no pun intended, to convert to electric vehicles. It was his love of our country that spurred him to buy Twitter. He became a PL pariah after he turned thousands of documents proving illegal collusion between the FBI and Twitter over to journalists. The documents proved the government had violated our First Amendment rights. The documents, while damning, went largely unreported by the mainstream media. Hilary Clinton doesn’t think censorship has gone far enough. Last week she called for social media sites to do a more thorough job of monitoring (censoring) user content. On CNN recently she said, “We lose total control if we don’t moderate and monitor social media content more.” Who exactly, does she mean by we? It certainly isn’t we the people. You can bet she means herself and Obama, and others from the PL elite. As long as the PL is in power the Disinformation Governance Board will always be in their plans.
Democracy must ultimately collapse into chaos when the people believe there are different laws for different groups of citizens. I am not a fan of Senator Mitch McConnell. I think he could be a poster child for term limits. Having said that, those of us who believe there should be one set of laws that apply to everyone, should thank him. His decision to keep Merrick Garland off the Supreme Court proved to be genius. Garland’s actions as Attorney General have been tragically biased and one sided. His appointment to the Supreme Court would have been for life. As AG he will serve something less than that. (I pray his tenure will end next month).
Some of Garland’s biased decisions include: He threatened parents who were attending school board meetings to defend their children. The National School Boards Assoc. sent a letter to Garland suggesting some of the parent’s activities could be equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism. How ridiculous! Still, following receipt of that letter, Garland assigned FBI agents to monitor (surveil) those parents who were the most outspoken. This was a Gestapo like move designed to frighten additional parents from approaching school boards. His Dept. of Justice saw fit to bring charges against Trump for possessing government documents. There is an ongoing debate as to whether a past President has the right to retain those documents. At the same time, the DOJ chose not to charge Joe Biden with the same offense. Biden has held documents for decades, since he was a Senator. Nobody has suggested that Senators have the right to be in possession of government documents. Unequal treatment under the law is a sure-fire way to undermine a Democracy.
Especially in a Democracy, there is a need for a rule of law that is rigorously enforced. When those at the top flaunt, or ignore, the law it weakens the foundation of Democracy. After a ruling on the Roe v Wade decision, was leaked to the public, protestors picketed outside of the homes of some of the Justices. That is against the law. Because they didn’t agree with the opinion, neither Biden, nor Garland, lifted a finger to uphold the law and protect the Justices. In another instance, Pres. Biden waved his magic pen “forgiving” student loan obligations for 40+ million Americans. Nearly 1/2 of the borrowers would have seen their debts completely eliminated. The Supreme Court ruled that only the Legislature had the authority to do that. Biden simply shrugged off the ruling and went on forgiving the debt. Our Constitution created three separate but equal branches of government. Its intent was to create checks and balances designed to limit the power of any one branch. When the Executive branch ignores rulings by the Supreme Court, and supersedes the authority of Congress, it weakens the underpinnings of our Democracy.
We are witnessing perhaps the greatest afront to our Democracy ever. Three weeks from now we will elect the next President of the United States. Kamala Harris is representing the Democrat Party. Was her path to the nomination Democratic? I think not. In 2019 she entered the primaries to become the Democrat candidate for President in 2020. Before winning a single delegate, she dropped out of the primary. She was the first candidate to do so. Democrat voters didn’t/don’t like her. Then, when Joe Biden won the primary, he fulfilled his promise to choose a woman of color as his running mate. (It was rumored that he also wanted to be sure to pick someone who was not as smart as him. He checked both boxes when he chose Kamala). Shortly after being elected, Biden’s polling numbers began dropping like a rock. When they became amongst the worst for any President in recent memory, PL elites got nervous. (As bad as Biden’s polling numbers were, Kamala’s were worse). Then came the palace coup. The PL elites, after an embarrassing Biden debate, decided he couldn’t win the upcoming election. So, they moved to replace him. Forget that the people had already spoken. They had given Biden enough delegates to represent them this Nov. The PL elites removed a duly elected, sitting President of the United States from the Nov. ballot. The people be damned they said. They usurped the voice of the people and named V.P. Harris as their candidate. (She apparently used one of the criteria her boss used in picking a running mate and chose someone who was not as smart as her. If Walz is faced with the choosing a running mate, and uses the same criteria, we might see a resurgence of the pet rock). It is ludicrous for the Socialist PL to warn Americans of Trump’s threat to Democracy when they blatantly ignored the voice of the people in their own Party. It is a purely third world dictator like move to replace an elected candidate with an appointed, unelected replacement.
Does the leader of a Democracy order nurses, police officers, fire fighters, etc. to submit to an experimental vaccine in order to stay employed in their chosen profession? No, but a dictator does. Shouldn’t the people in a Democracy be free to choose what kind of car they drive, or what kind of appliance they purchase for their homes? Dictators are taking those decisions away from us right now. In a Democracy the decision to be with our loved ones in the hospital/nursing home during the final hours of their lives would be left up to us. Dictators removed that option from us, forcing us to leave our parents/grandparent to die all alone.
So yes, this election is about saving our Democracy. It is NOT about saving it from Donald Trump. Trump is not perfect, but he is patriotic, has a successful track record as President, and believes in the values that made this country the greatest in the world. It is about saving it from Biden/Harris, the PL, and other Socialists, who would discard the things that make this country special. They will continue taking away our right to make decisions for ourselves. They want power and control over the us. They would take us all into poverty in order to get it. If you just can’t bring yourself to vote for Trump, okay. But please don’t doom your children and grandchildren to a life under the stifling hands of Socialism, by voting for Harris.
