Nobody is above the law? Really? This statement is accurate when spoken by a Democrat about questionable deeds performed by Republicans. It is beyond hilarious when it pertains to questionable deeds performed by Democrats. Discerning, nonpartisan, adults recognize the difference. I’ll take you on a quick trip down memory lane to prove that one’s legal problems can be either mitigated, or exaggerated, depending on one’s political affiliation. What follows is a sad commentary about the weaponization of the legal system in the greatest nation on earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After being nominated to be Trump’s National Security Advisor in 2017, General Michael Flynn was charged with lying to the FBI. The government continued its prosecution for 3 years. Flynn spent millions of dollars defending himself. After the government threatened his son with prosecution and he was forced to sell his home to raise funds for his defense, Flynn pleaded guilty to the charges. In 2020, with his life in tatters, the Court of Appeals voted to dismiss the case against him. We can only guess that his life would have been better had he refused Trump’s offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roger Stone, a Trump advisor, was convicted of lying to Congress and sentenced to 40 months in prison. President Trump was reviled for pardoning both Stone and Flynn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the flip side, James Clapper told Congress that the National Secuity Agency was “not wittingly collecting data from the phone calls of millions of Americans.” That was later proven to be a lie. In his report DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz confirmed that CIA Director John Brennan lied to Congress about the Christopher Steele Russian dossier leading up to the 2016 presidential election. No pardons were necessary for either of these Democrats as charges were not brought against them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2023 Peter Navarro, who had served as Trump’s Director of the Office of Trade, refused to comply with 2 congressional subpoenas. He was charged with, and convicted of, 2 counts of contempt of Congress. In 2024 he served 4 months in jail. He was the first former White House official to be imprisoned on a contempt of Congress conviction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was the first because a litany of Dems who refused to comply with subpoenas, or to testify before Congress were excused for their illegal acts. Here are a few that might jog your memory. 1. After having her private server subpoenaed, former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton, destroyed it. Her actions were excused by co-conspirator, and FBI Director, James Comey. He said he could not conclude that she “intended” to destroy government property. It is frightening that the most vaunted law enforcement agency in the nation decided that repeated hammering, and the use of BleachBit in erasing emails were not intended. Would Trump’s Sec. of State have received such generosity? 2. The IRS Director of Exempt Organizations, Lois Lerner, was subpoenaed to testify before Congress in 2013 and 2014. She was accused of delaying, even denying, tax exempt status to organizations appearing to have a conservative leaning. She appeared for her hearing but refused to testify citing her Fifth Amendment rights. To we simple minded folks, it is hard to discern the difference in not appearing, and appearing but refusing to answer questions. No charges were brought against her, and she retired with full government benefits. Sometimes crime does pay. 3. Attorney General Eric Holder was subpoenaed to provide documents to the House Oversight and Reform Committee concerning the failed Fast & Furious gun running program. He ignored it, basically giving the Oversight Committee the middle finger. His indifference ultimately led to a historic vote that held A. G. Holder in criminal contempt. He, and President Obama, ignored the entire ordeal and it eventually went away. The only difference in these 3 incidents, and the Peter Navarro situation, is that Navarro was a Republican working for Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We are now witnessing a Judiciary that is so far out of its lane as to threaten our Constitution. District Judges were created by Congress, not the Constitution, to adjudicate local issues. They have decided to usurp the power provided to the Executive Branch by the Constitution. These “local” activist Judges have thus far successfully delayed Trump’s Executive Order requiring trans women (men) to be returned to male prisons. Of course. They have forced Trump to send billions of taxpayer dollars to programs previously deemed wasteful by the Department of Government Efficiency. They temporarily blocked Trump from offering early retirement packages to federal employees. They have even forced Trump to drop the proof of citizenship requirement in order to register to vote. This is nuts!! I could have listed many more abuses of their power. Who the hell do they think they are?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Judges in New Mexico and Milwaukee apparently thought that nobody, other than them, was above the law. A Judge in New Mexico resigned after it was learned he had been housing a member of the Tren de Aragua gang on his property. He certainly knew better. Upon learning that ICE officers were in her courtroom waiting to take custody of a criminal illegal alien, a Judge in Milwaukee spirited the illegal and his lawyer out a secret door in the Courthouse. The Judge was arrested by the FBI and faces several federal charges. Instead of recognizing their importance to the integrity of our legal system, these Judges clearly acted as though they were above the law. Let’s hope they will be joined in their perpwalk by other entitled Judges. A term called “robeitis” affects too many Judges. It gives them a false sense of importance and invincibility that can lead to warped decisions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
American citizens are forced to take a back seat to illegal aliens in sanctuary cities and states. Sanctuary cities and states willingly flaunt the law by refusing to cooperate with federal law enforcement officers by protecting criminal illegals. They should not exist in a country that believes in the rule of law. It is beyond my comprehension that people elected by their citizens would choose to put the safety of those citizens at risk in order to protect non-citizens. That those non-citizens have committed crimes makes it that much more perplexing. Yet in cities like Boston, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, and many others, that is exactly what is happening. Here’s hoping that Governors and Mayors of sanctuary cities will soon join the above-mentioned Judges in departing from “public service”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weaponization of our legal system should be an early warning for freedom loving Americans. For too long the Progressive Left has encouraged Lady Justice to peek over her blindfold before rendering decisions. That has led to decisions being based on immutable physical characteristics like race, or gender, or political affiliation instead of the weight of evidence as measured by the scales she holds in her hand. If the “rule of law” is replaced by the “rule of men” there will be little left to stop the pernicious crawl toward chaos and socialism. No country proclaiming a free citizenry can long exist once its citizens are convinced their laws don’t pertain to every citizen equally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
